“[…] every now and again the query haunts me: Are there here and there sequestered places which some curious creatures still frequent, whom once on a time anybody could see and speak to as they went about on their daily occasions, whereas now only at rare intervals in a series of years does one cross their paths and become aware of them; and perhaps this is just as well for the peace of mind of simple people” – From the collection Casting The Runes, "A Vignette" by M.R. Wendell Berry
"[...] to be peaceable is, by definition, to be peaceable in time of conflict. Peaceableness is not the amity that exists between people who agree, nor is it the exhaustion or jubilation that follows war. It is not passive. It is the ability to act to resolve conflict without violence. If it is not a practical and practicable method, it is nothing. As a practicable method, it reduces helplessness in the face of conflict. In the face of conflict, the peaceable person may find several solutions, the violent person only one" - from Sex, Economy, Freedom & Community by Wendell Berry. You can get it at Carmichaels.

Peter Evans Quintet - Ghosts

Got GHOSTS the other day in the mail, and I can't recommend it enough. I don't know any group that can go from hoagy carmicheal to stockhausen and beyond in the same breath with love and conviction (outside of any ensemble involving Anthony Braxton). This is some truly unique stuff. Sam Pluta's electronics/manipulations are natural and vital extensions of the group's interactions - a beautiful way to push and pull on the history of the material.
There's no videos of this group that I can find, but here's an Evans solo moment
wonderful.
